A day ahead or a few hours before, start dying your coffee filters. I'm going to use 3 tea bags in water to dye most of the coffee filters a light beige or a very light brown (like tea stained fabric). And I used 1/4 of the acrylic paint bottle, in Christmas green, diluted in approx. 3-4 cups of water to make green coffee filters. Eyeball it to get your desired darkness.
DYING COFFEE FILTERS
Let the tea bags steep for about 10 minutes. Take a stack of 50 coffee filters, and dip in the tea. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to make sure that the tea has soaked the entire filter. Then, take the whole stack, and ring it out. Don't worry about being too rough with it - it wont rip! But get as much of the moisture out as possible - otherwise, it will take a long time to dry. Separate the filters into stacks of 10 filters on a cookie sheet, then bake for 20 minutes in a 250* F oven. Repeat this process until all your coffee filters are dyed and thoroughly dried.
ASSEMBLING WREATH
Position your decorations on the wreath. Don't glue it yet, just position them until you get them just the way you want them. If you can see through any part of the arrangement, you may want to take a dyed filter, and glue that down first. Then glue them down.
There are many ways to scrunch up the coffee filters and design the wreath. You can flatten, scrunch, or make a flower with each one. I'm going for the scrunch in the center method. Then take a dab of glue, and place it on your wreath. I'm starting out with just the beige color, and adding little green accents where I think they will look good. It's completely up to you! Use one solid color, or buy the already brown filters, or leave them white!
When you've completely finished gluing the coffee filters on, your wreath should look super awesome-possum. And if hanging on a wall or door, you don't need to glue any filters to the back of the wreath form.
