If you've ever had an itch to color your hair an unexpected hue, veggie based dyes have made it easier, available safe, accepted and cost friendly. In this in depth video, we'll show you what you'll need, what to expect, what surprised us and the every little thing you'll need to know to fulfill your bright dreams!
We cannot say how much we like Special Effects Hair Dye! The condition of my hair is strong, shiny and super bright! They didn't send or pay us to say this, I did my research and was glad I did- It's amazing!!
Do you need to bleach your hair? If you want super bright and true color, yes. If you would like a tint, say a wine tint over brown hair or a pastel purple over blonde- than no. Bleaching will make your hair hold the dye much longer though.
How can I make pastel colors? Just add conditioner to your color until you active the color you like!
My hair was dark brown, and sections were bleached to a brassy blonde to let the color stick and be bright. My stylist did a great job as always, and he only bleached areas of my hair that were very healthy to avoid damage.
My favorite mix was:
Special Effects Candy Apple Red
Special Effects Nuclear Red
This mix was approximately half and half, with some water to thin it enough to easily comb it through my long hair. I added Special effects Hi Octane Orange to my conditioner if I wanted to add a little more orange red. Adding a small blob to your conditioner and letting it sit for five to ten minutes in the shower really keeps your color fresh.
Remember, wash in cold water as infrequently as possible, use sulfate free products, protect hair from pools, and sun, use heat protecting when heat styling, clarify shampoo and dry hair thoroughly before coloring to open cuticle. YOU'LL STAIN EVERYTHING. BE PREPARED!
