Recipe and instructions:
1 16.25 ounce box of white cake mix
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt (I chose not to use salt, but you can if you'd like)
1 1/3 cup water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
2 large eggs
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
2. Mix together dry ingredients, then mix together all of the wet ingredients. Make sure everything is mixed well! A good tip to remember, is to mix for 2 minutes and that will make sure everything is good and mixed. :)
3. Get out 3 bowls and scoop out cake batter into each of them. You'll have about 1 3/4 batter in each bowl. Set one aside for the white layer, and add blue and red food coloring to the other bowls. Add enough food coloring until the colors are to the shade that you like. The red is kind of tricky, mine turned out more pink, so I wish I would've added more red than I did!
4. Spoon each color into lined muffin tins. I like to be exact with everything, so I used a tablespoon of each color. Each cup should be filled about 3/4 way full. When adding the layers, make sure to smooth out each layer over the other. That will help prevent bleeding while baking.
4. Place in oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean!
