This is the intensely moving true story of a group of free, independent African women, who against all expectations, have built themselves new lives, ten years after the end of the civil war in Angola.
That devastating war, which went on for thirty years, ended only ten years ago. Since then, Angola has been at peace --- but has not had much contact with the rest of the world. There are almost no Western journalists in Angola.
Very recently, an independent Western news team has succeeded in documenting some amazing human stories -- stories which one cannot read without being deeply stirred. The team has documented the incredible stories of these women who survived the war. One of them saw her baby girl saved, at the last
moment, from being fed -- alive -- into a grinding machine. Another was kidnapped when only a child, and sold into years of domestic slavery.
A third woman lost her leg in a minefield. What all three of them have in common is this: they have all been able to rebuild their lives, to learn new skills, and to succeed in setting up a successful business enterprise, providing for themselves and their families. While they study and work, these women have two basic rules: They all sing their traditional local songs --- and each one dances in turn.
The team of journalists -- with a hard-to-get permit from the Angolan authorities -- was able to record these amazing women: in the simple mud huts in which they and their families live, in the business which they have built together, and in riveting personal interviews. This incredible experience, in full sound and color, of dancing, skilled handwork, and personal stories of hardship, endurance, and renewed
hope, will move and inspire everyone who sees it.
