for this entry into my halloween makeup 2017 series, i bring you a makeup look based on gumiho, or the nine-tailed fox.

you'll find mythology of nine-tailed foxes all throughout east asia. most people are probably familiar with kitsune, which is the japanese version of it. gumiho is the korean version however. i've wanted to do more shironuri makeup looks incorporating more of my culture so this is my 2nd attempt at doing a korean shironuri look so to speak :3

the basic mythology behind it is that when a fox lives for 1000 years, it transforms into a nine-tailed fox. it can also disguise itself as a beautiful woman, hiding its true form. depending on the story, it feasts on different parts of humans, such as their heart or livers.

for my version of the gumiho i based it off a story where a gumiho disguises itself as a bride at a wedding. this is why i'm holding a mask painted with makeup worn at a traditional korean wedding by a bride. for the color scheme i went with warm browns because it matches the fox ears i'm wearing. also they are commonly portrayed as looking scary and demonic, so i tried to do the opposite with this makeup, because i wanted to portray it in a different way...more magical than scary.
