now maybe some of you are aware that the first ever makeup series i did on youtube, and what actually launched my interest in theatrical makeup, was a series of astrology makeup looks. my intent with that series was to push my makeup skills, learn how to create elaborate looks, and draw from my own brain and knowledge of astrology to aid me. my first look was released in january 2014. at this time no one else on youtube was really doing astrology looks where they actually transformed into sun signs; people mostly did eye makeup looks, and kept it at that. fast forward to today and a lot of people are doing makeup transformations based on sun signs, which i'm happy to see.
of course i must mention, since i was not experienced with makeup at the time, those looks were pretty awful. but i learned a lot from it.
this makeup look is a throwback to my first ever makeup series, and what launched my interested in unconventional makeup looks. i chose scorpio since i am a scorpio (and a scorpio rising to boot). the look was centered around a chest piece i embroidered by hand. i'm new to embroidery but getting slowly better at it. i also chose citrine and similar colors for the palette as that is symbolic of scorpio.
after i finished the chestpiece, i used bjork as inspiration, whose creativity i admire. she adorns herself in masks often; i wanted to create my own mask. i wanted to glue a moth to my nose with paper extending out from it as the mask, but i didn't have any spirit gum, so i stuck it over my mouth instead. the moth is from etsy, with Swarovski crystled glued on top.
then i winged the entire makeup look, basing it solely off how it would match the chest piece and mouth mask (idk what else to call it). for the initial design i referenced bjork's utopia look, which was done by isshehungry. but then i sort of went with the flow sort of speak, and changed it up quite a lot.
in the end, i'm not completely satisfied with this look, but i do like how the mask looks far away. looks like a very elaborate masquerade mask. pretty pretty pretty gooood
for my next big makeup project i will work on another chest piece, and something more inspired by royalty. i hope to debut that soon. :)
hope you enjoy!
