Letting go of my ex and his money (and phone calls, text and video chat) and trusting God
The Lord convicted me today to stop accepting money from a old ex-boyfriend. I didn’t have to do anything to get the money, but he often mentioned that we should get back together for "fun". There was no pressure though and I always said a polite "Thanks, but no thanks."
I kind of just considered this ex my “safety net” in case what I was praying for didn’t work out. Today God help me realize that I was trusting in this ex more than I trusted God. I honestly did not want to hear that from God. I was upset and even crying and scared to death of the thought of cutting off all ties and letting go, not just of the money but not talking to him anymore. See the ex was starting to call more and wanting to see me again and I knew that was a bad choice, but I entertained the idea anyway because he had always been so helpful in the past.
Today I proclaim that I am trusting in God and NOT my ex, by no longer accepting his money or anything including video chats, phone calls and text (it's all a slippery slope). I believe by faith that I have no lack. Fear has no place in my heart. God did not give me a spirit of fear. God provides all my needs.
Here are some verses I used to help me through today. The last is my absolute favorite!
----------------------------------------------------------------
Psalm 118:9New (NIV)
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Psalm 146:3 (ESV)
Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Psalm 23 (KJV)
1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
