This Halloween I decided to bring it back home to the Caribbean. So I'm going to be creating my own versions of my favourite Caribbean folklore characters. The first installment is my lovely friend Connor as the Moko Jumbie - a very tall, somewhat spooky, benevolent but mischevious spirit that lurks in villages, causing minor trouble even as it protects the village from harm, and always comes out to dance when the drums of revelry start playing. Making offerings to the Moko Jumbie would ensure a successful bacchanal. The stories (as well as stilt walkers playing these characters) originated in Trinidad and have since spread throughout the entire Caribbean. He is perhaps one of the most well known Caribbean mythological creatures, because of his association with revelry.
