There were a few more points I wanted to make.

During the colder months, we see 2-3 times the patient volume versus the warmer months. Several times this season the hospital is at capacity, meaning all of the beds upstairs are full. That requires us to hold patients that are technically admitted to the hospital in the ER and provide care for them until an inpatient bed is available or a transfer to another hospital happens. This slows down the ER, because it blocks new patients from being seen because beds are scarce.

Quick Facts:

Lab work takes approximately 30-60 minutes or more to result.

Imaging takes 20-60 minutes or more to capture and result.

Pharmacy may have to mix medications we don't stock in the ER.

Medications may require a certain time to administer. i.e., one hour.

Always follow up with Primary Care Physician after an ER visit.

Check out free clinics in your area.

Health Department does free STD/HIV testing as well as pregnancy testing. You might even be able to get free prenatal care at a Health Department.

Check out virtual doctors if you have access.


Be nice to health care workers. They work very long and stressful hours.
