hi everyone! since i get asked this a lot, i thought i would make a dedicated video on my current filming and lighting setup for youtube. so if you've ever wondered how i create that dreamy effect in my videos, WATCH THIS OKEE.
i will also have additional information and links to my equipment down below so make sure to check that out! if you have any questions leave them down below!

for filming youtube videos, i have always used a canon t3i. i've owned this since late 2012. up until late 2016, i filmed with the kit lens it came with, but now i film with a sigma lens.

a lot of people make the mistake of thinking that the camera body you use is ultimately important when it comes to video quality. that is not the case, however. your lighting setup, filming in flat profile, and more importantly, the type of lens you use matters more.
i highly recommend that if you want to improve your video quality that you watch cinematographers or people who work in the field. that's how i learned the basics of using a dslr.

i honestly have a pretty bad lighting setup, but it works out decently right now. i primarily use a ring light and two studio lights.
the right light is from DVEStore which has broken 3 times since i bought it 3 years ago. it's extremely flimsy and not suitable for long term use whatsoever...really regret buying it. i'm still worried that it's going to break on me again and i won't be able to fix it.
they sell nearly identical ring lights on amazon for less than $100 though so if i do buy another one, that's where i'm headed. i bought mine from dvestore originally for $199.
i have two HUGE lights attached to two light stands, which originally came from a umbrella studio lighting kit. the umbrella lights did nothing for me so i threw them out. i then replaced the studio lights with bigger lights.
i light my backgrounds with cheap christmas lights i got from the thrift store. i suspend them onto the wall using hooks you can stick onto the wall.

i use fabric as backgrounds for my videos. i've bought all of them from Jo Ann Fabrics. I usually buy them in lengths of 2 to 3 yards, which i then pin to my wall. there are way more professional ways to hang up these fabrics but i'm not in the mood to drop $50 on some special thing to hold up my background lol.
the cost of these can range from $8 to $50 depending on what you buy. i specifically buy fabrics that don't crease as easy because a creased background does not look good, ok. there are constantly sales and coupons available so try to buy these fabrics on sale.

i edit my videos in adobe premiere pro and after effects. to achieve that dreamy effect, i created a preset in after effects which i can add to any video clip. the preset includes fast blur set at 100 and 4 color gradient with the colors being slightly darker than the background in my video. i then add this to the borders of my video then feather that out by usually 600-700 pixels. try it too if you wish!
hope this was helpful...now for a new tutorial on Friday :3
