► LAST TIME: "My Red & Black Hair! VLOG" https://goo.gl/f39IQo
Hey everyone!
As Christmas approaches, I'm sure a lot of us are super excited and pumped to chill out and eat loads of amazing food. But I thought I'd share a few tips to help prevent acne occurring during this time.
Christmas is a time to celebrate and maybe embrace our inner glutton. I think that it's totally okay to do this every once in a while! But there can be some risks, too. All those extra sugars and fats can cause problems for our skin and our bodies. So hopefully we can all keep a bit mindful this season and eat loads of good food at the same time!
Here's some tips to stop acne this Christmas:
ACNE TRIGGERS
It is possible that certain foods can cause acne. If you notice that by eating a certain type of food causes you to break out, then I suggest either minimising the intake of that food, or removing it completely. Some food that can cause (trigger) acne include:
- Sugar. Sugar is in almost everything! Even simple things like bread, and condiments. Be careful of your sugar intake, and if you can, swap out some obvious things like fizzy drinks (soda) for alternatives like sparkling water. If you can eat fresh fruit instead of a huge amount of chocolate, try and do that! Reduce your sugar intake, and it will help your skin and blood sugar levels cope.
- Dairy. For years, people have said that dairy affects their skin. We have no proof that this is absolutely the truth, but the fact remains that many people experience a reduction in acne if they stop consuming dairy. If this is a concern for you, then tell people as soon as possible that you want to have a dairy-free Christmas. You can still eat loads of things like cheese, ice cream and cake (in moderation!) if they are made from soy or nut alternatives. These are now easy to buy at all supermarkets.
- Fat. Saturated fat is the main problem here. There are some good fats and oils, such as the fat in avocado and Omega-3. But a lot of what we consume at Christmas is full of bad fat. It can make us feel sluggish and sick. Try to only eat lean meat, and bulk out your plates with healthy options first, before loading them up with greasy options.
- Alcohol. Even though this amazing liquid can help get a lot of us though Christmas with the family, it can also cause acne flare-ups in some people. Be especially aware of sugary drinks like cocktails, which can be deceptively potent! My advice is to stick with one or two, and drink water for the rest of the time. Or, drink spirits. They are often either low or lacking sugar completely, and will still get the job done!
OTHER ACNE TRIGGERS
There are also some environmental triggers that can cause acne to flare-up, and which ones you get can depend on where you are in the world!
If you are experiencing winter, then be careful of your clothes. Wear natural fibre, like cotton, as much as possible. It helps the skin breathe, and isn't harsh for the skin. Also remember to wash any items of clothing that come into contact with your skin, like scarves and earmuffs.
If you are experiencing summer, then be very careful of our powerful sun! Slip, slop, slap and wrap! Protect your skin at all times by wearing high SPF sunscreen, and wear a wide-brimmed hat. Also make sure you are washing your linen, clothing and towels very regularly. Bacteria is a major cause of acne, so the less bacteria you have, the better your skin will be!
Have I missed anything? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks heaps for watching, and I look forward to seeing you on Monday!
