So today's episode of "Makeup Rulez" is all about GLITTER, both craft glitter and cosmetic glitter and what the differences are.
Now, I have beef with people saying craft glitter is eye safe because nothing happened to them. That's almost the same as telling someone, "well I played in traffic and I survived". That's cool, but not exactly recommended, or at the very least shouldn't be recommended.
Craft glitter is not eye safe. Technically no glitter is eye safe according to the FDA in the US, but the reason I have such an issue with craft glitter is that it has sharp edges. Next time you're doing a craft DIY that requires glitter, take a good look at one of the pieces. Those bad boys are either square or hexagonal shape. So sharp corners+ your eyeball can lead to scratches on the surface of your eye. Trust me, they suck. Getting an eye infection because of these scratches is even worse.
And I'm sure someone out there might think I'm fear mongering a little, but my eyes are extremely important to me. I want to make sure as many people as possible are informed about this. If you know the risks and decide to use craft glitter- more power to you. If you didn't know this was a possibility, at least now you can make an informed decision.
So what makes cosmetic glitter eye safe... er?
For one it's cut into a round shape. No edges doesn't mean it won't mess up your eyes, but the chances of getting scratches on your eye from glitter is significantly reduced. Another perk I didn't realize until I started doing some research for this episode was that cosmetic glitter has the color make into the plastics they use to reduce the risk of, where craft glitter is painted with colors after they make the plastics used today.
But what do you think? Did you know the difference between craft and cosmetic glitter? Besides the price point of course lol. Let me know in the comments below, and don't forget to let me know what you'd like to see next!
