Dear Future self I promise you this… Dear past self, it’s ok and thank you! LETTERS TO SELF
Welcome to day 16 of the Turn Your Life Around Challenge!
Today we will be writing letters to ourselves.
A promise to our future self
A forgiveness letter and a thank you to your past self
FUTURE SELF: I promise you this…
First letter we will write is a promise to our future self. A commitment. Just like you promise you will do something for a friend, make a similar promise to yourself, your future self.
PAST SELF: It’s ok, I forgive you, and thank you!
We often get stuck in the regret: if I would have started in this earlier, if I didn’t quit youtube, if I got into acting earlier, if I wasn’t so lazy in my early twenties and so on… And sometimes we are embarrassed by past mistakes or angry at ourselves for them. You might think nah its not such a big deal, sometimes a thought of regret pops up, but its not true because often on subconscious level we actually identify with those past experiences, how we have been living, or doing things in the past. And that means we think this defines us. Instead of saying I was, we say I am. So if in the best you were terrible at playing piano, you say: I am terrible at playing piano, but you actually don’t know because you haven’t tried back then, and most likely you are very capable of learning it today. Not the best example, but hopefully you know what I mean. Also we forget that we are evolving and what we know now, our past self didn’t know, she didn’t have experiences we have had that helped us grow. So she did the best she could with what she knew and had. So go easy on her, treat her like a different past version of you and don’t identify with her too much. You are a new person, every day is a new opportunity to be who you want to be. So write her a letter and in that letter, you can write some mistakes or things you regret, make a list of specific things you feel angry at your past self for, the things that you would have done differently now
