How I came up with this look...
There are actually a slew of mermaid looks that I have been wanting to do for while, based on different creatures in the ocean. This one is based off of a whale shark (duh) which is actually a fish and not a mammal. However, they aren't as fierce-looking as the typical sharks and a bit more goofy looking, in my opinion. I do love their spots and stripes, though their size can be intimidating. The varieties of blues in the skin is really pretty. I was also a bit inspired by Dory's whale shark friend in the movie "Finding Dory", though I haven't actually seen the movie by this point... I really need to get on that. :/
