MEHNDI CEREMONY: Often with Sangeet or Antakshari. An evening of fun, shararat, games with music, dancing and mehndi.
MANDWO: religious prayer done a few days before the wedding. The family on both sides seek blessings for the marital happiness from the divine being.
PITHI: OMG this was makeup back in the day. A homemade paste of yoghurt, tumeric and chick pea flour is applied to the skin. Applied as a creamy paste, this acts as body mask. The yoghurt soothes red skin and cools down any irritated areas. The chick pea acts as a skin softener. The yellow tumeric powder acts as an antibacterial and anti inflammatory, calming spots and preventing new ones from popping up. The tumeric also leaves a light yellow glow on the skin which is like a yellow foundation for darker skin tones thus producing a golden glow. Once this has dried, the paste acts as a rub or scrub. It's rolled over the skin to work off any dead skin cells and leave a baby soft layer to the new skin.
and then of course the wedding.
