I have a pretty easy rule to follow when it comes to making my life decisions. I ask myself one question.
Does doing what I am doing or what I'm about to do make me happy?
Everyone has their own way of defining what is happiness. I think a lot of people agree what happiness is though and what it is not. What gets silly is that most people agree on what happiness is but yet most people don't try and change their circumstances to reach that happiness when their threshold for wanting to change has been reached. I'm talking the kind of situation where you've been miserable for months, complain all the time about hating it, but yet don't do anything. What I am not talking about is being unhappy with something temporarily or when you're still willing to ride out the wave to see if things get better. Nope, I am most definitely talking about when people have made the choice in their minds that nothing will make them happy besides leaving this situation and yet they sit on their thumbs.
Complete waste of perfectly good years or even decades of your life!
If you say to yourself how much of my life do I spend doing things I don't want to do and come up with the answer most times, then I think you have a lot of company. Myself included at times. I don't want to wake up early in the morning and go to a job that I don't particularly like. I don't want to pay my bills. I hate spending money on gas. I even hate licking envelopes. These are all things in a regular person's life that happen often where you're doing something and it doesn't make you happy. I think in order to be a happy person now, and in the future you have to take control of the things you have control of and reduce the ratio of things you hate doing to things to you don't mind doing or actually like doing.
One of the major things that takes up a huge part of one's life is how you make your money. I truly think that more people should try and be happy in the workplace since it's an aspect of your life that you have quite a bit of control on. Sometimes it's not obvious right away how to do that. Sometimes it's not obvious right away that there is even a problem that can be solved. What I do know is that if you are a patient person and you see the end game results instead of constantly needing instant gratification then my advice in this video might help you!
It's important to remember what makes you happy in life evolves constantly as you reach goals, as life changes, or as you get older so it is more than ok to modify your life to reflect how you want to be even better.
