"Hi everyone! I'm Jenn. Many of you don’t really know me, but I am Kat’s cousin, and I also get to be her maid of honor today.
We didn't always live 634 miles from each other. We actually grew up together in Bloomington, IL, where I still reside, and I've always thought of her as my first best friend in this world.
Growing up together was a lot of fun and we got into so much trouble! I wish I could recall all of the stories...I do remember some though...which I'll share with you. One thing we did a lot was prop up folders and hide behind them and pretend to tell each other secrets just to irritate our grandma. So nice. We would also play house and use Aquafresh toothpaste to make our tricolored spaghetti for dinner. We wasted a ridiculous amount of toothpaste. It goes without saying, but we were major hellions at times.
Eventually my partner in crime and her family decided to moved to Texas and we actually kept in touch by writing letters to each other (it’s crazy that we lived in a time when internet and email didn’t exist), but as we got older and busier, we naturally drifted apart for a while…a while being at least a decade, but we had an opportunity to reconnect in 2011 and looking back, I’m really glad that we chose to plan a random FL vacation to see each other.
I don’t even remember how we managed to organize that trip but when we met up, I was really pleased to find out that she hadn't changed a bit. She always tells me how impressed she is with me, but I’m equally impressed with her, if not more. She's one of the best people I know and I'm just so proud of the person she is today. I know she’s worked really hard to get to where she is in life and I really admire her for knowing what she wants and taking charge of her own life. It’s been cool to see her grow these past few years and now she gets to do it with Seneca forever by her side.
And Seneca, welcome to the family!! I just want to take the time to say thank you for being who you are and for loving my cousin so much.
Pardon me bc I'm going to get a bit personal right now, but Katherine was raised by her mom and her brother, and I always felt like she was missing a piece of her heart. I’m sure a lot of you have a father or father figure in your lives and can say “yeah that’s my dad…or that’s my dude” but she’s never had that…so I really appreciate Seneca for being good to her and for being her stable rock. I know it's helped her heart feel more full and I think that's wonderful. I’m so glad that these two amazing people found each other and decided to make this lifetime commitment, and I’m so comforted by the fact that they’re are doing it for all the right reasons. I hope I can share the same sentiment and have that feeling of peace when I get married.
On that note, let’s all raise our glasses to Katherine and Seneca…I, along with everyone in this room, wish you a lifetime of happiness together and may you always be surrounded by family and friends who love and support you both.
Cheers!
