Hey guys! So, remember in this video http://goo.gl/W2JxUY where I talked about the heat damage I got from flat ironing my natural hair in this video http://goo.gl/M11Mbj . Well, you'll recall that I said I wouldn't be doing a "big chop" (even though I really, REALLY want to!) but instead, I would just gradually trim off the damaged ends.
Well, this is the first video in a series of trimming videos. Based on where the line of demarcation is (separating the heat damaged hair from the healthy hair), I have about 10 inches of hair that needs to be trimmed off.
So, the plan is to trim off about 1 inch per month. Now, I said this is the plan. If you know me, you'll know that I am a fan of doing the big chop. My patience for "growing out my hair" is basically non-existent! But, for the sake of "trying something new", I'll see if I can make it the entire 10 months of gradually trimming.
I won't make any promises though! Don't be surprised if this turns out to be a 5 month series!
To trim, I like to put my hair into two-strand twists. I find it makes trimming a little easier.
I use my finger as a "measuring guide". The distance between the lines on my finger is about 1 inch. Also, I'm not too concerned with cutting evenly. This is because I wear my hair in some form of a protective style 99% of the time. So, with my ends tucked away in a bun or twists, you won't be able to tell that I don't have an "even" cut.
Now, once all of the damaged ends have been cut, I will be going to a natural hair stylist and getting a professional shaping and cut. I've heard some good things about the Deva Cut so that is something I'm considering.
Let me know how you've dealt with heat damage. Did you gradually trim off the ends? Did you say "forget this" and just do a big chop? Or, did you simply do nothing at all?
This video was filmed on March 23, 2015. I'll be doing my trims on the 23rd of every month (or as close to the 23rd as possible).
Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next video!
