Born and raised in Jamaica. Sly Rankin grew up in Spanish Town then moved to Kingston at 18. Attended Wolmers High School where he became a member of the Gangsta Colony and has been killing beats wihout regret ever since. He has been back and forth between Brooklyn, Jamaica, and Fort Lauderdale for the last 4 years developing a irresistable style of island- hop music ie. hiphop and dancehall combined. He has released several several mixtapes in collaboration with Solja Life Records based in BK, New York. He now resides in South Florida.

Several songs from Sly Rankin’s ‘Rapsteady’ project where licensed by MTV for use in their Reality Tv, film and video game production. So far he has had features in several episodes of My Super Sweet 16 (including Sean Kingston Supa 21 Episode), Washington Heights, True Life just to name a few.

Now he has gone on to working on his next Project which is a documentary and soundtrack titled “Jamaica Hip Hop” produced by KADEN Films and distributed by Movie Time Distributors. The documentary is a look into the underground Jamaican hip hop scene. The first single released from the soundtrack is “Keep Coming”. Which is composed by internationally know dancehall producer Kirk Bennett, popularly know as “Kirkledove” drummer for reggae super star Beres Hammond. The second single is titled “Dunce Anthem” which is getting great support from Sly Rankin’s fans worldwide. Gangsta Colony, a group of Jamaican rappers & Dee Jays of which Sly Rankin is a member of, has also had three of their songs featured in the short film “Blind Date” which aired on BET Network’s “Lens On Talent” program. Their music is gonna be an undeniable part of the Jamaican music culture for years to come. Not since Shaggy released his mega crossover hit “It Wasn’t Me” and Sean Paul’s “Gimme The Light”,have we seen another Jamaica artist with the ability to become a crossover super star and give Jamaican music the due recognition and respect it deserves in the international entertainment market.
