Thank you for watching. This is a video on my endometriosis diagnosis journey. From the time I started my first period until now it took me thirteen years to finally get diagnosed. Six years after I had a dermoid tumor removed from my right ovary. Endometriosis is a chronic illness, with no cure, that takes years to diagnose. I often have pain everyday, sometimes so server I can't move or continue on with normal activities. Endometriosis is something I will always have to live with, it's just a matter of finding out what helps you cope with the pain.
If you'd me to make a video on dealing with endometriosis after my diagnosis let me know. :) If you have any questions just feel free to ask.
Endometriosis (en-doe-me-tree-O-sis) is an often painful disorder in which tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus — the endometrium — grows outside your uterus (endometrial implant). Endometriosis most commonly involves your ovaries, bowel or the tissue lining your pelvis. Rarely, endometrial tissue may spread beyond your pelvic region.
In endometriosis, displaced endometrial tissue continues to act as it normally would — it thickens, breaks down and bleeds with each menstrual cycle. Because this displaced tissue has no way to exit your body, it becomes trapped. When endometriosis involves the ovaries, cysts called endometriomas may form. Surrounding tissue can become irritated, eventually developing scar tissue and adhesions — abnormal tissue that binds organs together.
Endometriosis can cause pain — sometimes severe — especially during your period. Fertility problems also may develop.
Endometriosis Symptoms. Pain just before, during, or after menstruation is the most common symptom. For some women, this pain may be disabling and may happen during or after sex, or during bowel movements or urination. It sometimes causes ongoing pain in the pelvis and lower back.
