It depends on what I am going for. If I am going for long lashes I will do rubber, if I am going for volume I will do bristles.

Traditional brushes are actually made out of synthetic fibers so you were right flor. These bristly hairs are good for volume especially when there are a lot of bristles on the wand.
Plastic brushes are good for separation or length but are not your best bet for voluminous lashes
Rubber-bristled wands are good for no clumps and lots of volume! Mascara actually will avoid drying up as fast on rubber because it slips off easier
