Hey ladies, I really need your expert help and advice.
I am currently saving up for a car and I have found one that I like -a 2008 Audi TT. I have a savings account and I make normal deposits everytime I get paid- but this car is a little bit pricey and I need to save more. The money I usually have leftover I tend to blow on makeup and clothing (and Starbucks, tsk tsk) and I really need to cut back.
I wasn't introduced into the concept of "No Buys" until I joined BL. How do you guys do your no buys and how do you stick with them?
Any other advice for cutting back on mostly uneccessary beauty expenses? I can't even go to the grocery store without wandering into the cosmetics section. It's awful.

Instead of using a credit card I take out the money I need so I don't buy anything extra… I'm in the same boat as you. I need a car.

On my phone I have an app called color note. it allows me to make checklists and notes for myself. I have 3 checklists on there permanently.
my to do list tells me what groceries and bills I need to buy and pay off. my fun/savings list is where I have all my extras I want and calculate my savings. and my lush list because I'm a hard core addict lol. I can't buy anything from my fun/savings or lush list until I have my to do list clear

Life of a high schooler, parents have money while the kids are broke as hell. my favorite place to shop is becoming only the outlet stores, lol. I am on the same boat as you are in girl!

I always pay for everything in cash and it has helped with money management more than I could have ever hoped! Sure I keep money in my savings, but I take out a certain allotment from my checking account once a week. I will only spend the cash at hand and set aside the general amount for necessities and keep the rest for anything extra I want to buy. If I don't use all of my weekly cash allowance, I put it into my savings account instead of letting it "roll over" into the next week's cash allowance that I take out.

I've also been making swatch booklets of my makeup so I don't purchase too many similar items. I do this mostly for lip and nail color since I find those the easiest to buy repeats or accidental dupes. I was carrying these in my purse for a while, but now I am more acquainted with my inventory so I don't need to refer to them as much.

As far as No Buys go, I just can't do it...well not completely. Whenever I tell myself I'm on a No Buy, I still end up buying beauty products. The only difference is that I do more research than I normally would have and I take more time to consider buying something. Sometimes it works out where I will put off buying an item, and others I find I will benefit from buying it at that time (due to discounts or coupons or LE items). I try not to feel bad when I break a No Buy because at least I was trying to be smart about my purchasing habits.

I would think if you want the car bad enough that should be motivation! Maybe put a picture of it in your wallet so everytime you go to buy you remember what you truly want. Also you can use this as a lesson of self control. Like tell yourself not spending will help you later on in life with making more long term/ better decisions with your financials. :) My wife wanted a pricey car so she cracked down & saved 10,000 in 4 months for the down payment. She would put money in savings and act as if it wasn't there at all!! You can do it. :)

Wow 10G in 4 months?! Tell your wife I said that she is AWESOME! That's such an accomplishment.
Thanks ladies for all the advice. I have the car set as my phone wallpapers. I think I will stick a picture of it to the front of my debit card. Hahaha.
I think the idea of paying with cash is a great idea too. Maybe the inconvienent trip I'd have to take to the ATM will discourage me from spending in the first place... Hm.
And Kenzie thanks for the app suggestion I downloaded it and I'm super excited to use it. I also am going to start writing down all the money I spend. I see it on my bank app but I think writing it down will really show me how much I'm spending on dumb stuff.
And for the ladies who are in the same boat as me, we can do it!
