What foundation & primer are you using?
what's your skin type?
do you set your foundation with a setting powder?

* ignore my first question, lolol.

I use max factor foundation and niver primer. my skin type is oily but can be dry. I have acne so I try and cover it up and yes I use a pressed powder over my foundation

Well first of all I suggest you use smashbox photo finish primer blemish control it gives your foundation a smooth canvas to go on top of and also this primer helps control your acne I also suggest possibly getting a new foundation and maybe a concealer for cover up hope I could help :D.

Thanks but I have only just brought a new foundation. I will have to look into buying the smashbox primer

It did the same with my other one. I thought that I would try a different foundation from the last one and it still happened. I have just look at the price of the primer and its a bit out of my price range.

Was your foundation suited for combination skin? and was your primer a hydrating primer or matte primer? you used Max factor foundation but which one is it?

Hmm. perhaps your products aren't agreeing with each other.
these foundations are all really good for oily skin types:
KVD Lock It Tattoo
Estee Lauder Double Wear
MUFE Matte Velvet +
NARS Sheer Matte
I would also invest in an oil free primer, like the Too Faced Primed & Poreless Oil Free. you said that you moisturize & that your primer also has moisturizer in it, so that could possibly be one reason why your foundation becomes patchy.
as for setting your foundation, I find finishing powders are better than just a pressed powder. I used a pressed powder once when I ran out of my finishing powder & by the end of the day I looked cakey &, well, patchy >.< Tarte Smooth Operator finishing powder is really really great, & gives a matte finish so it works well with matte foundations :p
hope I could help! xx

Kyra is right about the Nivea Primer & moisturizer that could be breaking up the foundation but it also depends on what Max factor foundation your using as well.

That foundation is a Matte finish and your mixing it with a moisturizing primer and it's attaching to some dry spots on your face that you may not know you have before applying the routine of the products.

Okay.. I will go out and buy a new foundation.. what's the difference between setting powder and pressed powder? as well is the rimmel stay matte foundation going to be alright for my skin because its oil free. if not what foundation do you recommend. my budget is up to?10

Or what about the collection lasting perfection foundation as that is also oil free. would this be suitable

You got it down Jacqlyn, Leah it comes down to what skin type you truly are and from there you take the next step to bringing in all products to help work best for your skin type. Maybelline Smooth is wonderful with a nice primer by it's self but moisturize before anything but lightly apply then wait for it to set to your skin first before adding primer. But Smooth is if you have dry skin.

Always moisturize before you put foundation on and after you get out of the shower.
