I'm doing a 10k run for charity at the end of September in memory of my cousin, and I was wondering what sort/brand of running shoes are good. I've never needed to buy running shoes before, so any suggestions? Preferably not too expensive, although I know a few places that sell Nikes for a decent price, if they'll be any good. I need good quality ones as I'll be training in them as well, and theyll have to last through training and the run:) Pictures and names (such as the type and brand) will be helpful:) thanks girls x

Nike, new balance, or Asics. If you decide to get nike PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not get Nike Frees! They are terrible for your feet and will augment injuries. I have several track teammates who decided to buy Nike Frees, and by the end of the season every one of them had injuries like shin splints and stress fractures. Furthermore, even the top athletes who ENDORSE Nike Frees agree that they are a horrible shoe. Seriously, running in converse would be better for your feet. I know that they may look stylish or whatever, but don't give in to that and get something you will not regret later on.

As for good shoe models, I'm currently running in Nike Lunar Flyknit and I love love love them. Asics Gel Nimbus is also quite good.

Nikes or sketchers. My boyfriends mom bought me $60 sketchers running shoes and I prefer them over Nikes. They're light weight and so comfortable.

Also it has a cool feature for running. There's a Nike+ sensor (that you buy separately) under the sole of the shoe that tracks the distance, time and pace you run. Then it transmits the data wirelessly and you can look at your progress on the computer.

Nike's for sure! I've owned mine for a year and half and they are still giving great arch support and are so airy and comfortable as well!
