I am trying to make marble nails with water and I watched a million tutorials. My first drop of polish spreads, but my other drops of polish after the first one remain a dot on top of the water. I don't know why it works on videos but not for me. The water is room temp slightly warm.

I used to do this all the time :p
I think your problem is that you're letting too much polish drip onto the water. it's not allowing the other drops to hit the water & spread. if that makes sense? lol, I suck at explaining things >,<

That polish just might not work with it. Try a different brand or color.

Try changing the waters temp, room temp works best, for some reason bottled water works best for me...also could be an old nail polish...also for some reason certain brands of nail polishes aren't too good for water marble because they don't spread.

@Veronica, if it's still not working then your nail polish is too old. you need decently new polish in order for water marble nails to work >.< it's a very touchy process, lolol.

Adrianna E is right. room temp is best.. use bottled water. I messed up this so many times until I watched a tutorial and some girl mentioned the water problems she had , also it might be the glass you are using. don' t drop the polish from a high distance from the water and try using good quality nail polish. I also tried with the old ones I owned but it didn t work untill I bought new ones. also don t wait to long between droping another nail polish.

Water marble
1. Fill a glass halfway with room temperature water
2. Slowly drop drops of fresh, new nail polish into the water
3. Make a design in the water lightly with a toothpick
4. Base coat
5. Base color coat
6. Border the nail with clear Scotch tape
7. Slowly dip the nail all the way into the water
8. With the nail still in the water, clean out the nail polish with a Q-tip
9. Slowly take out nail and peel off tape
10. Let dry
