Bottom line: I want to be tan.
Which is better, a spray tan or self tanning lotion/mousse?

By spray tan, I mean going somewhere and getting it done.

The only reason I'm thinking spray is because I'm so impatient and want instant results.

It really depends! If you are looking for an everyday tan, I would go with self tanning lotion. I find that it looks more natural and lasts longer. You do have to be careful about spreading it around elbows and ankles as it can cause awful stains if you aren't careful

Spray tans are okay but make sure you have a person do it, not the machine. Go to a place with good Yelp reviews. The spray tan place by my house can ask what kind of tan you want and formulate it for you, so try looking for places like that!

Are there spray tans that are brown as opposed to the orangey ones?

I think you should try it once, knowing you may be a little orange for a few days. that initial dramatic orange color dies down within a few showers. ull never know unless you try :-)

If you are looking into spray tans I would recommend Mystic spray tan. It is a booth, and as apposed to colours they have set shades to choose from. The carb based formula reacts to your ph levels and skin to allow you to achieve a tan as you would naturally in the sun (so no orange) it takes 24 hours to completely develop but you will see changed after 4 hours and it will continue to get darker afterwards, which allows for full control!

Hmmm I've never gotten a spray tan but I think that might be a better option. Tanning lotion you have a better chance of streaking it since you're doing it yourself. I also found that when I used them and went swimming or in a hot tub the lotion would come off but it would leave patches all over my body.

I prefer self tanners, my favorite at the moment is Tanwise, the lotion, and you can get it at Sally's! :-)

I love the spray tan I got a few days ago it didn't make me orange. What makes you orange is the balance of ph on your skin. So if you get a spray tan MAKE SURE they have a ph spray before the actually spray tan and then moisturizer. That's what the place I went to had and my tan turned out amazing.

Spray tan! There are now new machines where you can customize your tan, so you don't have to be orange! 💕

I trained in spray tanning and can honestly see where people are coming from... some can be quite Orange but if you have it where you are look for a spray tanned who uses suntana. it's brilliant and so natural... I wouldn't use anything else! x

I bought a self tanner from Victoria's Secret and I love it! Its a lotion, it has the sparkle but when you put it on you can't really see it, you don't reek for hours after using it, I don't streak or get blotchy. It was the best $16 I ever spent:-)
