@Jacqlyn Nope, Policies are restricted to every station individually, and their departments.
For instance, our station is the only one not allowed to wear BDU's & Polo's ( Polos & Cargo pants which is super cool looking and comfy with my awesome combat boots. ) unless they are on a specialized squad ( Priority service Unit and R.U.S.H are the only two squads that are patrol officers that are sporting BDU's and polo's.)
Yet explorers from a station 5 mins away are sporting BDU's & Polo's as they please. I personally would love to volunteer in that kind of comfort.
We are allowed to have Tattoo's ( But there has been a rumor going around that they are changing it to tattoos that aren't visible ) but if we are on media we will be told to wear a long sleeve shirt or try to cover it up.

I currently have dark green/teal hair, and I my septum pierced, I started working at a tanning salon as a receptionist, got promoted to airbrush technician, and I do just about everything at work from tanning, spray tanning, cutting and coloring hair.

I work at the bank so can't have colorful hair...I had to leave work for 2 months (personal stuff) so I took the time to go red since it's my fav color but had to dye it back to my natural color again 😫

I'm a cosmetology student, do cuts and color on the side, I've been told I will more than likely be able to keep my mermaid blue hair when I can work in a salon. I am also a free lance artist and draw tattoo designs. but I used to work in retail with colored hair..it really does depend on the employer. if you have the skill though you could shoot for a telemarketing/ poll taking job...no one will see your hair or peircings.

I don't have colorful hair. But it is shaved on one side. & I have many piercings and tattoos, I worked in a hospital as a sterile processing technician until I quit to do fertility treatments. Since then I've had two job interviews to work in the same position and got offers for them both (I didn't accept either) also my wife has a Mohawk. Piercings and tattoos as well like a lot more tattoos than me, even one on her neck and she works in an extremely reputable hospital as a sterile processing technician as in a lead role. I really don't think it's true what people say about the whole "can't get good a job" thing. By your appearance. As long as you're clean cut and present yourself well. If anything I would think minimum wage jobs care more about that type of stuff for whatever reason. But when you're a skilled trained professional I really don't think your hair color, tattoos etc. are relevant. There are surgeons/nurses & all types of different people at hospitals that my wife/I have worked at who have plenty of tattoos.

Oh & also we both have gauges and I'm 21. She's 24. So it's not like they judge us any differently because we are also somewhat young to work in this type of position.

Your appearance does have a lot to do with the job you get.
my friend had red hair and in order to work at Hanes she had to dye get hair a more natural color.
it just DePends on the job and customer interaction I guess.

Your appearance does matter. (Just realized I said it didn't earlier) But I don't feel tattoos/piercings and all that matter. You can have tattoos gauges & whatever else and look 10x cleaner cut than somebody without. But yes, depends on a lot of things I'm sure.

I feel your piercings as long as they are not over doing can stay, the colored hair how ever except for natural colors will always be an issue. my friend refuses to get rid of her extreme modifications and is currently unemployed. it depends on where you work and if you can hide it.
