I am wondering what your occupation is while you have facial piercings or crazy colored hair? I love having my hair pink, blue, etc, but I have a very hard time finding jobs. Thanks so much!

I have bright purple and teal hair, though I'm currently a student. I'm sure that when the time comes for me to be employed I'll figure out what to do. I'm not too worried, however, as I'm not interested in anything corporate or teaching related.

I have tattoos and a nose ring, I work in the cosmetics section of a big box store. Most retail jobs are cool with the piercings and tattos, I used to have half black/half red hair, and pink and purple streaks, and no one said anything(: eventually I want to go back to beauty school and/or pursue some soft of pre recs for teaching, and I have no plans of changing my appearance. People, in general, are more accepting.

I work at LUSH. even though I have natural colored hair and no tattoos. they embrace individuality and unconventional beauty :) at manager meetings/expos people often think there's a tattoo convention going on because so many staff members have an alternative look.

I had every colour hair when I was younger but I kept it blonde for the past few years now and I have a good few piercings and a good few tattoos but they are all hidden. I'm a cashier and honestly they would have never hired me if I had colourful hair or anything piercing or tattoo that I couldn't hide (except for ear). Every shop will be different, but unforchenately places can be picky and judgemental on stupid things because they have so many responds to a job opening because of the high unemployment rate.

I used to work at a school board in the admin office for the superintendents, and they all (including my boss) encouraged me to get more lol I was professional and they knew it didn't affect the quality of my work :)

Ha... All you guys work at actual careers and I work at a grocery store and I've been there for like 5 years and about a year or more ago they set some stupid rule for no unnatural color hair and no more than one facial piercing...well I took my snake bites out for a little and kept my nose ring and they couldn't really see my gauges I would have my hair cover those. And they fought me on my purple hair for the longest time and I finally took it out but they didn't win 100% I turned my dark brown to a pretty reddish burgundy brown and my bangs are blonde so ha still not natural still but my style in my hair :) and about after two months I put my snake bites back in :)... Watch me jinks myself now... Watch I'll come in the next time iWork and they will be like take your piercings out... We'll let's hope not... But I do miss my purple hair 😞 but one day I'll put it over the blonde part again and tell them to suck it 😛

I disagree with Olivia's statement. Hair & tattoos definitely interfere with certain careers. For instance, a nurse may be allowed to have bright pink hair but any police officer who is not wearing long black socks or isn't clean shaven will get sent home in a jiffy here.
It all depends on where you work and what their policies are. Unfortunately Miami is huge so they easily discriminate on looks here, and to top it off it's mostly hispanics where I live and they are a bit old fashioned and having colored hair is just another reason to X you off.
I personally disagree, I would love to have a teal ombre type of hair color but with my choice in line of work I am lucky that I can even paint my nails. ( Colored polish isn't allowed unless it's neutral. )
However, I prefer my career over teal hair any day!
Maybe when I retire ;)

Yes I definitely agree with kitty! I've had a friend get told that they weren't even aloud to have blonde highlights. It all just depends though. I have colored hair at my job even though I'm not supposed to lol.

More than one of my teachers looks like what you're describing. and really, places can be very forgiving in appearance as long as you aren't directly in contact with clients, or are in contact with a certain type of clients.

I think it has A LOT to do with where you live in the You.S.

here in Utah where people are predominantly on the conservative side, its extremely difficult for someone with hard to cover tattoos to get a job anywhere. jobs like mine are extremely rare and I feel very blessed and proud to work where I do.

on the flipside, more liberal places like Washington state and Colorado obviously have a very different and in my opinion better perspective
