I've had friends that have modeled before and I don't recommend doing something you aren't comfortable with just because they said so. It's an industry were you need to be the person to kiss up and sell yourself and it's just not something I think is worth manipulating yourself for.

Moved ore you do anything to alter your appearance make sure you have the job! Too many people are manipulated to do something they don't want to do and then later regret the change once they don't get the job. Tell them that you'll gladly change once you have a contract in hand that both parties agree to and you have signed.
