I've heard you're not supposed to shampoo your hair daily as it can damage your hair. Does this apply for me, as I have oily hair? Because if I don't wash it daily, it feels oily, dirty, and uncomfortable for me. I've tried dry shampoo (from Dove) which wasn't very helpful (I felt like it stopped working hours after applying it) However, I also want my hair to be as healthy as possible. Are there any other products that work better to combat the greasiness? Are there gentle shampoos that I could use every day? is this skipping-a-day-is-healthier thing even true?

Maybe you should be reconsidering your conditioner instead? A lot of women don't condition their hair properly, therefore making it greasy. When conditioning, I keep it away from my hairline, and just condition mostly the ends and middle of my hair. As far as the shampoo question goes, I shampoo everyday and I don't have any issues :p its all personal preference I think.

If you wash your hair every day, your hair will create more sebum (the oil) to make up for you washing every day. Over the weekend, take a shower on Friday and try not to shower until Sunday night for school. Get a dry shampoo. Your hair will get less oily.
And yeah, not washing your hair is better for it

I have oily hair and I DO NOT wash my hair daily because it washes away the natural oil in your hair and makes your scalp produce more and more so washing it everyday in reality is making your hair more oily in the end. I have curly hair so I use curly girl which you can et at ulta it's an amazing no sulfate, no harsh chemicals it doesn't make my hair oily. What shampoos have you tried?

Also a lot of conditioners as they said does make your hair oily if not used right. I only put it on the the ends and length of my hair not my scalp

I do kind of apply conditioner on my scalp, because though my roots are oily my scalp is actually very dry. probably from overwashing >?< but if I use a shampoo meant for moisturizing dry scalps will that help? so my body doesn't need to compensate for a lack of moisture?

So how/when would I use that? like how long would I need to leave it in for, and can I just wash it out in the shower? sorry for all the questions :P

I read somewhere that washing your hair doesn't create more sebum because it's like training your hair, and you can't train your hair to make less or more depending on how often you wash it. I think shampooing everyday is fine, just be sure to get a shampoo that is sulfate and paraben free.

No it's better if you wash your hair every day then stop conditioning it.
Try doing apple cider vinegar treatment it'll help with oil control and keep the hair strong shiny and healthy.
If you don't have this option use alchohol free shampoo- but don't stop conditioning your hair

Try to shower maybe only 5 times a week with a little bit of a gentle comditioner and use a organic shampoo, these seem to be gentler.

And apply shampoo only from roots to ears and conditioner from ears to ends
