I'm still practicing my makeup techniques. However I've basically been practicing on myself & loving most looks and getting compliments on my looks and how I should branch out and get a portfolio. I want to so bad bc I plan on attending cosmetology school in a couple of months and I just want to study, get more knowledge then what Iv'e obtained over these couple of years. My question is how do I go about building makeup kit with different foundation colors, how will I know what will work for others,I hate powder foundation is liquid foundation good for just about anybody? and I hate the look of fake drawn on eyebrows so how do I go about that as well as what if a client doesnt have groomed eyebrows or a natural arch bc I have 2 models I want to do makeup on for my portfolio and their twins 14yrs old and that haven't gotten any manipulation done to their face at all and anouther question how do I go about when it comes to clients/models 15yrs and younger?

over all I just need help trying to figure out how to build my kit without breaking bank and getting the absolute necessities for my kit

PLEASE HELP! =/

Well if you really wanna do MAKEUP, cosmetology school is about 99% hair and a week of makeup. As a free lancer you have to be open to ALL products used on clients not just liquid because some people might not like it for the same reasons you don't like powder, start practicing on friends. I started doing looks for when my friends were going out. It's good practice and they will be honest with you. Hope this helps!! <3 :)

It's definitely great to get hair experience. I started all makeup and that's my love....however my job requires some hair...it's in a production studio. So def a great idea being trained in everything!! And def- go pro cards!! I get 40% off at MAC pro!! Plus I worked with Mac and the gratis got me started!!

oh wow okay Elli G. ,I was thinking I would just for makeup and then take up on the hair after bc alot of ppl say if you just go for cosmetology you dont really learn to much with makeup courses

My strategy was to build my kit overtime. There is a difference in buying makeup for yourself and for your kit. You want to be able to do anyone's makeup regardless of skin tone or texture. That means your kit should be diverse. My kit contains the following product lines: MAC (I purchased a lot as an artist for MAC), Inglot, AVEDA, Sugarpill, MUFE, Too Beautiful, etc. Watching YouTube videos helps a lot. Practice daily and take pics of your work so you can study it and improve it. Hope this helped.

On the subject of licensing, I've found (at least in the state that I live in) that it's much better and way cheaper to get your esthetician's license as opposed to a cosmetology license if you have a strong preference for makeup and skincare. Otherwise, you can learn how to style hair on your own if you wish to provide styling for clients. The only thing you need a license to do on hair is apply chemicals anyway!  :)
