What are your thoughts on tanning? Also does tanning make skin smoother and clear up acne? How do you guys feel about it?

tanning doesn't clear up your acne, that's a myth. It makes your skin worse and if you have acne scars the UV lights do more harm.

Tanning will not make skin smoother. It will not clear up acne.
It will prematurely age you. It will increase your risk for skin cancer.
Stick with fake tanners and bronzers.

I have managed tanning salons for 4 yrs and I am smart tan certified. I do not agree at all with tanning cleaning up your acne and I will not tan my face. I tan about 2 times a week in High pressure beds. I have my own reasons and options on tanning but when it comes to tanning my face I'm not for it.

I wouldnt tan my face. I just thought it made my body smoother and thought it'd look better a little tan instead of no color at all.

See a Dr. about acne, they might prescribe RetinA ( which will help your skin wrinkle less as you age) or birth control pills. Tanning causes premature aging and puts you at risk for skin cancer.

Do what you want to and think is right and don't let people tell you to tan or not tan. (:

Totally agree with Paige. I hate when people tell me to stop tanning. I like to do it bc it makes me happy and is relaxing. I do however read up on everything and think moderation is key! :)

Yea i dont wanna go overboard with it, just to get a nice tan and some type of color to my body. I'm a scardy cat about melanoma and everything like that. I just dont know how long would be good moderation.

I tan 1-2 times a week using high pressure beds which are less likely to burn you. And ALWAYS use a tanning lotion you need that moisture etc. never go in a bed with out it and don't use baby oil (can shatter bulbs/ruin acrylic). I like the hempz lotions (25x), snooki lotions are surprisingly my favorite and designer skin :) tanninglotionsupply.comis a great place to get discounted lotions that are not fake :)

I tan and I can't comment on acne bc I don't breakout much. But just do your research! For example, you must start in base beds to build melanin in your skin. Hp beds will then oxidize it, making it more brown. Salons will try to tell you to start in hp beds so you don't burn- you can't get a base either! And make sure to use lotion, and aftercare lotion. Make sure you know your stuff bc the people at the salon do not necessarily tell you what's best for you, they say what they're told or have to to make more money.

I work at a tanning salon and I tan somewhat easily so I really only tan once a week MAX. I breakout a ton and I have found personally that it does help my acne clear up a lot. Brittany is right though it is extremely important to use lotion when tanning to keep your skin moisturized and I put on a lotion with SPF in it on my face every morning, but not before I tan so that I have the best chance of clearing my skin. I know that many people are against tanning all together, but I've learned a lot of the effects from working at a salon and as long as it is done in moderation it is totally fine! If you try it let me know if it helps your skin as well and if you have any questions let me know!

Any lotion is going to be good for one and suck for another. Case in point, I hate snooki lotions. I love jwoww, supre sweet and sexy, Swedish beauty Shea you love me.. There are so many you can't know what you're going to like. Some have dha, which is self tanner, some are natural bronzers, it's a lot if info to get on one thread. I recommend going to iamtan.com, a forum for tanners. You will learn everything you need to know.
