Ok this is going to sound really daft but whenever I try and do anything with eyeshadow it seems to go very wrong. It never looks anything like I want it to. Is it the eyeshadow I'm using or the way I'm doing it. I've watched a million videos and just not getting the look I'd like. All tips are much appreciated and I'm very grateful

Thank you in advance to everyone :)

It is hard to recreate looks from a video because you may not have the same eye shape as the person doing the makeup look; it won't turn out the exact same way if you don't have the same eye shape. That plays a big factor in eyeshadow application? What eye shape do you have? It's hard to tell you what to do if we don't have much information about your eyes or what you are using. A tips I can give you though, is use different brushes to blend eyeshadows out because it will become muddy.

It can be a combination of things. what products and brands are you using? what sort of brushes are you using?

I use to be sooo bad with eye makeup! It definitely takes practice. Like Shauna said, the right brushes are important, I hate using the little eye applicators that come with eyeshadows. Invest in good products, I love Urban Decay, Too Faced, Smashbox, and Stila.
For drugstore, Wet N Wild is great (holds up pretty close to my UD and Too Faced) but use an eyeshadow primer (Milani is great for starters, it works almost as well as my high end primers), Nyx, Mayelline (I only like their pigments the cream and loose tattoo shadows) L'Oreal, and Physcians Formula or a good palette like BH Cosmetics (cheap and they make amazing brushes too! Can be found online).

And primer is just applied all of the lid and then you apply the shadow over. It really makes a huge difference! And I use primer with every eyeshadow I use even
if its high end:).

At the moment I'm using a cheap set of brushes that I bought online a while ago but I am building a better set of brushes. And I'm using lots of different eye shadows like maybeline and MUA (makeup academy) again I'm builinding a better set of eyeshadows. Hope that helps and I'll post a pic of my eye shape now. Thank you all so much

Definitely knowing your eye shape can make a big difference. Same with using quality products and brushes. I'm not saying you need to break the bank. Some good eyeshadow brands are maybelline, marcelle, nyx, coastal scents, urban decay, sephora brand. I also recommend some cheap brushes like real techniques and eco tools. I also recommend using an eye primer to help the colours become more vibrant and last longer. It's all about practicing

Looks like you have an almond eye shape..would explain to you but its a lot here's a website with two videos : one that explains eye shapes and another explaining how to apply eyeshadow to each shape. I suggest you watch them :)
