Does anyone else have this problem?

Every time I get a new foundation even if I have someone match me it's always the wrong shade and I always have to go back twice! And also they always match me to something that is more pink. When I look at my face in the sun when I have the foundation on it has a pinkish tone to it and when I look at my neck it's 2 compete different colors. Does that mean I should go up a shade or down?

That just means that they gave you a cool toned when you are more warm toned. Everyone has a bit of yellow in their skin but some are more "pink" toned and I am guessing that for some reason they are trying to match you to that. You may want to try the same color on the warm scale of their line.

I think the undertone they're picking for you is wrong.

If it looks too pink, it is probably the wrong undertone. Try sampling a warmer toned foundation. (It should look more yellow compared to the cool tones which look pink).

If you find that your face and neck are two different shades, you can adjust slightly up or down to match; or you can blend the foundation down your neck a little more. I'm guessing the foundation is a little too dark compared to your neck? Try going up one shade. If that ends up too light, you might have to mix two together to get the right color.

Thank you girls. For some reason they've always told me I'm a cool tone even at MAC I'm a NC30 and those match me pretty close so I never though that the reason why the other foundations I used were too cool toned. The ones I've had that problem with has been the maybelline Tru Blend, Neutrogena, Kat Von D was a little off just too light and most recently the one I bought 2 days ago the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24 hour makeup. That one is the one that looks the pinkest one me which I spent a lot on and love but wrong shade, they gave me 310 Bisque (c). But now I'm definitely going back and getting a warm tone!

Mac is a little wonky in their "cool" and "warm" lines. NC does stand for Neutral Cool however when you look at the chart it says "yellow undertones" which for the rest of the makeup world means warm toned.

Wait...so what are pink tones referred to in MAC AND real world?

Sometimes the girls that work at the stores are not experts in undertones and matching skin. They will just pick a color that looks like your skin from the bottle or the swatch. MAC is opposite of the rest of the world. The way I think of MAC is "NC = NOT COOL" and "NW = NOT WARM" because you would think NW would be warm, but it's actually pinkish undertones. Weird.

So I choose NC colors in MAC because I actually have warm undertones.

I see! That's what I kind of remember...all my stuff is NW! But I'm definitely warm toned. I think my concealer is off...blahhh.
