Hey! Do any of you know what damages hair less? I wanna do highlights, but my hair is dry&damaged as it is so I don't wanna make it worse ðŸ˜•

In my opinion highlights hurt hair less that hair dye.

Should I use hair dye for the highlights or sun in though?

Try sun in first and when your hair will look healthier go for hair dye :)

Sun in can make your hair orange

I've seen a lot of people post about cinnamon and honey to lighten the hair. I would Google that since it would probably be the least damaging way to lighten up a little. Honey is actually good for your hair so it could help your damaged tresses too.

If you use sun in you CAN NOT use bleach until that hair is gone. I just wouldn't do it, it's too unpredictable.
Use deep conditioners and trims to get your hair back back to a healthy state and then do highlights.

DO NOT USE SUN IN! It can damage your hair especially if you use it for an extensive amount of time. my mom used it before to lighten her hair to blonde and it ended up causing her hair to break off and lose thickness. And her hair was healthy before using sun in. Honestly you should wait until your hair is healthier before dying/highlighting it. If your hair is already damaged, using chemicals on your hair will just damage it more.

I've used sun in on my very dark hair and it worked great. But just don't over use it, you can't expect it to turn your hair blonde or have any drastic change. I would use it a couple times a week when I would go swimming and I loved the results. It gave a very nice subtle glow to my hair. I also got highlights later on and I had no problems... but I didn't bleach my hair, I would never recommend bleaching your hair, it's extremely damaging to your hair. My only problem with highlights is that my hair grows very quickly so I was constantly having to get it touched up and it costs soooo much money to get it done well. Hair dye definitely damaged hair, I have extremely healthy hair and after doing highlights I've noticed my hair getting damaged. However I've found a hairdresser that works out of her home and she uses this special hair dye that doesn't use any of those harsh chemicals from a salon and my hair looks extremely healthy. I recommend doing some research to find a hairdresser that doesn't use harsh chemicals.
