I have been trying FOREVER to figure this eyeliner thing out.
I just cannot figure out how to put it on my top lid. I have tried gel, pencil, and liquid liners. No matter what I do it always comes out a really thick line. Do you guys have any tips on how to get that thin line cause I am out of hope. Also, do you guys have any eyeliners you would suggest? :)

I would try out felt tip liquid eyeliner pens because they're the easiest to control and maneuver:) I suggest trying the L'Oreal super slim infallible felt tip eyeliner:)

I personally found pencils the easiest to use when starting out.
technically you're not supposed to do this when applying liner - or at least not winged liner - but I find it's easier to apply liner on the top lid when doing this: put your finger near the outer corner of your eye & pull. it makes it a lot easier to see what you're doing.
also, start by making a thin line. then step away from the mirror & see how it looks. then add more if you feel necessary.
hope I could help c: xx

I bought a felt tip liquid eyeliner pen recently, and it turns out I have NO ability with eyeliner whatsoever.
So can't help there, but I've heard that gel liners are the easiest. I've heard that the MAC gel liner is best...maybe give that a try?

I would say get an angled eyebrow brush or something, put it in a brownish eyeshadow and just press it against your lash line and then use it as I guide line, or just do it in black and no need to add eyeliner at all.

I agree with kyra.that's the only way I am able to do good eyeliner.

I use an angled brush. You get it wet and pick any eye shadow color. It's so simple to get the right shape and it last compared to my gel iners.

Until I got the hang of eyeliner I held my eye closed and pulled the skin taut - not a good thing to do long term but if you're struggling it makes it a heck of a lot easier. pointed qtips + makeup remover to fix mistakes and possibly concealer helps a ton. try different kinds of eyeliner and find which one is easiest for you - pencil, liquid, felt tipped, gel + angled brush, etc. just practice a bunch. :)

I'd recommend checking out the Real Techniques silicone liner brush. I was using their fine liner brush for a while and I was still having trouble making a thinner line. I really like the brush because there are no bristles, just a silicone tip so you don't have to worry about bristles splaying all over the place. You can get their brand at Ulta, I ordered mine online because from experience the stock in the store is either limited or picked over, so if they don't have it in store try the site :) I also recommend just taking it slow. Sort of sketch the line out and keep it as close to the lash line as possible. You can go back in later and smooth it all out and connect it together, but first you have to get a general shape down. And of course, practice makes perfect. Try making skinny lines on the back of your hand when you're bored and sort of get warmed up before going straight onto the eyelid.
