Makeup expiration dates

So I know that once you open something such as a mascara it has a limited shelf life. But does it age if it's not open? I've picked up a couple mascaras from sales and I'm wondering if I've wasted some money. Thanks!

The expiration dates are on the package, and they're that many months from the open date.

Powder products face and blush 2-3 years
eye shadow 3-5 years (longer for just personal use)
foundation 1-2 years (depends on formula; some may only have 6months)
concealer 1-2 years(depends on formula; some may only have 6months)
Lipstick 2-3 years
lipgloss 1-2 years
mascara 3 months
pencil/kohl eyeliner 1-2 years
gel liner 1-2 years
lip liners 1-2 years

I really don't pay attention to the expiration dates and I'm still alive... I have a concealer that is at least 3 years old and still works fine lol. Just smell it to see if it's okay.
