Picking the right shade.

I always have a problem picking out the best shade (for foundation and the like) that would match my skin tone. They say, "Get something that is two shades lighter than your skin." So when I apply it on my face, it looks unnatural because it's light. Although after about 8 hours, my face looks dark. My friend says it's because I am acidic that's why my make up oxidizes. Now I do not know what make up to get. :/

P.S. I am normally just a little oily but I get really oily when it gets hot and humid.

With foundation you get the same colour as your face, definitely not 2 shades lighter. You would get 1 or 2 shades lighter when you get a powder because powders always seem to oxidize slightly on the face. A good foundation shouldn't oxidize that much. To make your face ready for foundation you should moisturize and apply a primer which acts as a barrier from your face to your makeup which should make it not oxidize. What foundation have you tried?

I knew I have come to the right place! See, I am not very knowledgeable with makeup. Thank you, Shauna! Well, I have tried MAC, Maybelline, Revlon, Estee Lauder, and Giorgio Armani. I actually liked the Armani one but it's too costly for me, and we do not have it in the country. Any alternatives? Also, suggestions for a good primer for combination skin?

Not sure if this would be of any help but this is pretty much my skin tone. Pardon the oily face, I just got up. :s.

One thing to think about is your along undertone (warm/cool) and what kind of skin type do you have.

No problem!! I know a lot of people love Revlon Colorstay for oily skin, personally it broke me out. I personally love L'Oreal True Match, I have oily skin as well, it oxidizes slightly but I've never had a big problem with it. Also check out Tarte and Makeup Forever Mat Velvet +. You should definitely check out Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. Also remember to set it with powder!

@Diggie: The undertone dilemma! I find it hard to figure it out because apparently, it is not only warm and cool; there is neutral, golden, olive, etc. Can you help me, please? I have posted a picture above.

@Shauna: I have been eyeing on L'Oreal True Match but never took the risk of buying it; maybe this time I should give it a shot. Sadly, we do not have Tarte and Hourglass here. I can get my hands on those in August when I get to the US. Thank you again, Shauna!

In my opinion it's one of the best drugstore foundations out there. Hourglass is definitely worth it, I get the smaller size for $21. If you get a chance to get it definitely try it out. For now maybe try out Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro as a primer, it works pretty good. Unfortunately I have very sensitive skin and I'm allergic to lots of primers out there lol but if you ask more people on here I'm sure they can give you more suggestions. I'm so glad I could help!
