Probably from stress
or from dyeing hair too much.

Start by taking omega 3 for now; you need 1600 mg per day (it doesn't hurt) omega is referred as the pill of life. and you're most deficient with vitamin E so avocados and seeds are good sources of it. plus get a hair mask apply it preferably coconut pr shea and or use oils.
basically it is malnutrition and if you heavily rely on fast foods then all you need to do is to go clean for a while and you will notice a huge different. you don't need pills, only the omega 3 and it will not harm of you take the right dose. moreover eat clean for a while and do not stress with exercise and problems cz your body needs the oxygen to restore what has been missing (too much biology :p) sorry haha.
that should be it :)

And excessive hair dye like the ladies mentioned would destroy the scalp and reduce keratin production. this is why I told you you need more vitamin E fuels to maintain everything back to its normal levels! don't forget to pamper your hair with oils! once a week should do the job :)

And stress of course! but in stress, hair usually grows back in 2 to 3 months later. so just try to stay away from everything stressful, swim, get a massage eat dark chocolate..

It could be so many things, vitamin deficiency, diet, stress, birth control can cause this as well, too much damage (color, heat, & sometimes if you wear your hair up often), and also what hair care products you are using. I was using a shampoo last summer and I lost so much hair until I quit using, so I would try a thickening or repairing shampoo and conditioner and doing deep conditioners/hair mask. I would ask your doctor what vitamins you should be taking and I also highly recommend using magnesium (it comes in powder form at most health food stores), because depending on your diet, most do not obtain the right amount of magnesium, I would look up some more info on this, because my mom started taking it and it really help improve her stress, migraines, skin, hair, and makes her just feel better in general.

And I also recommend using a tangle teaser hair brush because you could
just be brushing your hair too hard and damaging it...

Lisa magnesium is not related to hair loss in particular in fact it doesn't cure it or reduce it. the magnesium is a co factor that helps the absorption of other vitamins that can help her health and hair in general.
magnesium is used for bones and muscles in particular; young people don't have deficient in it however adults above 35 or even females who had kids might get deficient and when she does shell have joint pain muscles in general pains all over the body.
taking magnesium won't help her much if she has deficiency in the vitamins.
I told her to make omega 3 which alos has iodine to regulate her hormone levels especially for the thyroids if she was concerned about it..
but you should do a blood test jessica just to make sure!
there is 1 once of Mg in each 130 pounds body.. so the deficiency is hardly remarkable unless she has other deseases or habits like alcohol abuse taking antibiotics have kidney disease or even taking drugs for diabetes..

It's stressing me out a lot because I'm losing a lot of hair and I don't know why, I got tested for thyroid and I didn't have it. I been taking
Some vitamins for a month and a few days now, I've switched my shampoos, because at first I was using garnier triple nutrition hair an shampoo in the yellow bottles and that's when I noticed my hair started falling out /: I quit using it, n now am using Aussie miracle shampoo and 3 minute miracle conditioner, it does make my hair semi soft but when I wash my hair a lot of hair falls out, and now it's at the point where just to touch it strands an strands are falling out and they're from the roots /:. I have been extremely stressed but I really don't know what to do I rather like not lose my hair at 18 ):

@Fatima, I know that magnesium deficiency is not causing the hair loss, but what I meant, is that it can help along with vitamins or whatever she needs to do. It was only a suggestion so she could do some research because I know plenty who it has helped them, not necessarily grow hair, but if she is stressed out, the magnesium will help with that... Sorry for the confusion, I also said she could ask her doctor about it...(:

My hair tends to fall out a bit when I'm stressed, but it also depends on if your hair is color treated and how much it is...especially if you highlight your hair a lot it can dry it out and cause it to become brittle and fall out.
