I think MAC lipsticks are overrated- I don't like them. They don't stay on very long and the colours aren't that great either imo.. I don't get the hype about them.
And I agree with Symone: bh cosmetics eyeshadow palettes are awesome- definitely an underrated brand :)

Underrated
Bare Minerals: loose shadows, lip gloss, etc. I never tried the powder foundations though.
Kat von D: Used to be underrated. I had multiple palettes when the brand first launched. Although it seemed to become increasingly popular after the foundation debuted.
Wet n' Wild: I'm new to this brand but I understand why it's a cult favorite. The eyeshadows are insanely pigmented!
I'll have to think about the overrated brands.

Oh & Sephora Collection is definitely underrated!
Their eyeshadows are not the best but they reformulated so they have improved!
I really love the lipgloss and lipstick as well.
I think the best thing about this brand is that they have such a wide selection of products and colors!

Overrated brands, to me, are Mac (I like one thing. One. And it's not even their lipsticks. Their lipsticks are drying, not very pigmented, and don't last longer than an hour, even if I don't eat anything), Elf (everyone raves about how it's great for being so cheap, but almost all products I've tried from them are absolute junk), Benefit (yeah, the packaging is cute, but nothing I have from them is worth the price in the slightest), Vaseline brand (stuff is crap. Petroleum jelly doesn't do anything for anyone, it doesn't moisturize, and it can clog pores and ruin your skin, no matter where you use it).
Underrated Brands: Buxom (it's absolutely amazing, I haven't tried a thing from them that I dislike, their products are so pigmented and pretty and easy to apply. I especially love their cream shadows, I have every color), True Blue Spa (has great lotions! Amazing!), Fresh (everything is good, seriously. Lip balms, face wash, everything), Korres (I haven't disliked a single thing I've tried from them), Butter London nail polish (it's expensive, but worth it. Really, it's the best nail polish I've tried, no chipping or peeling at all).

I agree with Leamsy, bh, coastal scents, crown, all those mega 120/88 eyeshadow palettes are hyped up and actually such mediocre quality.. Once you experience a good quality eyeshadow, you can't turn back lol.

Overrated: loreal skincare (alcohol city!) and face products, OPI polish, MAC in general
Underrated: agree with hannah, buxom is AMAZING. KvD used to be underrated , but still fab. Milani, jordana (owned by the same company, I think), hard candy nail polish, rimmel, essence, and prestige cosmetics. Especially prestige!

Overrated- Deff Mac (way too expensive)! I have four lippies and they are very dry I say perfect if you want matt, Naked palletes (I'm afraid to buy one coz of the money)
Underrated- BareMinerals, Olay, bh cosmetics eyeshadow palette & lastly proffessional 120 eyeshadow palette (They are so pigmented)

I think the most overrated brand of all time is MAC. Its honestly not that great and there are tons of underrated brands that are a billion times better.
