Ok so I really want to go ombre like the chocolate and golden colours but I'm scared if its really damaging. Like I know bleach is involved but I really want advice to see ifs it that bad. Also if you go ombre and want to go back to only just one colour would you have to dye the lighter bits first then one colour? Thats confusing, sorry. And is it best to go to a professional or DIY? Please answer. Thank you :)

I had it done and I did a bright blonde on the ends and my natural dark brown at the top, but caramel brown and a red based brown in between. The only part really damaged is the end where it was bleached. The mid colors were dyed and left to sit like 45 mins and as long as I condition once or twice a week it's all good...except for the bleached part haha also my dark brown is super dark, like almost black and it took the caramel dye easily! Definitely go professional, they have to do it separately and if your hair is long they usually tease too. If you choose to go back and you don't bleach you may be able to get away with one dye but you can't do it immediately after you color and the stylist can always go into more detail for your hair type :)

If you're willing to go to a professional, I suggest doing so! DIY is a good option if you are familiar with the products and your hair, as well as the reaction they have to one another.

I went to a professional a few years ago for ombré, but at that time you almost never saw it on anyone, so he didn't know what I was really asking for. I brought in pictures but he didn't know how my hair handled bleach, so what he did was so much more demure than what I wanted. I went home and re-did it myself and LOVED it. But I was VERY familiar with using bleach products on my hair. I was really just going to a salon to treat myself and have someone else do the work, which I think is nice! You probably can do it at home, but going to a salon is just so much less stressful for you. Now it seems everyone knows what ombré is and they are getting more innovative with it, they may have a less damaging way to do it than slapping some bleach on, in your own home. A professional will definitely create less damage than a DIY ombré. Since it's a "grown out" look, you don't need to keep paying for touch ups either, so I say splurge ;)

I am not sure if you would have to color your whole head with dye or just the bleached parts if you want to get rid of it. That may be a trial and error type process. But since your base color is dark, you won't be "lifting" any of your color, just depositing it, so it shouldn't do very much damage. You can always buy pre made ombré extensions! If you're worried about damage and wanting to go back extensions may be a awesome way to go about it.
