my friend bleached her hair and it turned an awful orangey yellow color. what can we do to fix it? :(
Dec 18, 2012
Zoe C.
Toner, be careful with it though as that could make it worse with silvery patches.
Give it a few days to settle and maybe bleach it again, if it isn't working, see a professional.

Yes, Definitely a toner as Zoe has said!
I like the Wella Color Charm toners, personally. I use T18, Lightest Ash Blonde which is a violet based toner but my hair is super super light so it turns it white... there are other options for blondes though! Or else you can use color correcting shampoos and conditioners which are excellent for upkeep but I'm not sure how well they will take out the yellow tones without an actually toner first (never tried, myself!).
Here are links to the ulta and sally's website with more details of examples of toning products that should work for your friends:

Shampoo won't do much. Go to a salon and get toner. OR don't use bleach but a nice shade of ash blonde box dye instead.

I use redken dye and toner but Sally's has wells stuff (which I personally hate and would never pay that much for semi professional dye). But it does work.

It Always Worked On Mine :/

Yeah Clairol Shimmer Lights works awesome on my hair as well, Caitlin Lee!
But I've only used it after initially toning my hair so I haven't any experience with that as a toning agent alone. But out of all the violet toning shampoos, if any worked alone I would definitely say Shimmer Lights has a lot of super violet power! or else the Phyto Targent Shampoo =)

Yeah, Just A Cheaper Way To Try Before Going A Spending A Ton Of Money To FIX It :/

Hazel Z.
her hair is not completely done she needs a toner and the shimmer light shampoo do so work she can use it twice a week but be careful with it..
Dec 19, 2012
Natalie T.
Hazel has definitely got that right! I use shimmer lights every single time I wash my hair, but I keep my hair at a light violet color-not blonde.... using it too frequently will definitely cause tooo much violet tones in the hair and using it once or twice a week like Hazel said is a much better idea for anyone who is not a violet-blonde

Natalie was t18 at some point called violet lady? I'm trying to remember what I used to use back 10 years ago when I was super blonde
Dec 20, 2012
Natalie T.
yep! it was "white lady" once upon a time, but yeah I know what you meant, same thing! a few dyes and toners grom the line got a revamped name not too long ago =)

Ya but it is for maitenience of already toned hair. Bleach is to always be followed by toner. Not just shampoo. I've worked in several salons and always hated girls who would come in thinking their hair looked fab when it was yellowish and horrible looking.
Always,always,always tone after bleaching!

Ahhh white lady...I used to apply it every 12 days..this was before beauty school when I didn't know better

Yeah I just went to the salon to get my roots touched up this morning and their Pravana violet shampoo made my pre-toned hair an amazing violet, but the newly bleached hair that hasn't touched a toner yet had absolutely no change in color.... So there's my first experience with toning shampoo over bleach but not toned hair. Not effective.

Ya it just doesn't work. I've found in the past (when I was in the midst of goin from black to blonde) that purple shampoo does almost nothing to just bleached hair. May make your ends a bit lighter but that's about it.
I have blonde hair now but I tone with 09n, so I don't use the purple shampoo anymore.

Toner and a purple shampoo. Avoid bleaching and have a professional tone it. Do not bleach it again.
Dec 20, 2012
Tiffany M.
Purple shampoo is useless on hair that hasn't been toned with a violet based toner
Dec 20, 2012
Kimberly E.
If you bleach it again, you will damage your hair and it will cause massive breakage. With purple shampoo leave it on for up to 10 min, once a week.

Natalie T.
Its great for maintaining it though =)
I've got a little lavender toner cocktail on my roots right now. It really makes a difference =)
Dec 20, 2012
Avery M.
Well not useless. If I wanted to use it it would keep my hair lighter for longer but I like to tone with 09n instead of 09v. Or sometimes a mixture of both.
