For those of you who don't know, today is Nelson Mandela's birthday. I'm from South Africa so this is a very big deal for us, especially because it is the first Mandela Day since he passed away. In my country we have this thing called 67 minutes (well, it's supposed to be a worldwide thing, but I don't think it's as well know elsewhere) where you spend 67 minutes doing something charitable, in honour of the 67 years he served our country. The goal is to motivate people to continue participating in random acts of kindness throughout the year.
I didn't bother with face makeup because I want to be able to enjoy myself without foundation weighing me down. I'm not normally a shimmer kinda gal, but the gold is representing a lot of things so I thought, "Why not?"
Products Used:
Stila In The Light palette -
Bubbly all over my lid using a wet brush, Kitten in my inner corner, mix Gilded Gold and Sandstone in my crease.
Rimmel Special Eyes pencil liner
Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless mascara
Essence brow pen
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous
Are you guys doing anything for your 67 minutes?

You look gorgeous!!
And happy happy birthday to Mandela, I shed a few tears for our loss of him this morning, but he wouldn't have us crying for him, so I'm now celebrating his birthday in the sun with a big old iced coffee!

Thank you Sabrina :) That sounds lovely! It's definitely a bittersweet day. It is a great loss that we still have to mourn, but at the same time there is an amazing sense of community seeing people from all walks of life coming together to help and serve one another. My mom works at a shelter for girls who would otherwise be on the street, and they have been so overwhelmed with donations that they have been able to start passing some of them on to other organizations :) Enjoy your iced coffee in the sunshine! I'm jealous; it's a cold and and rainy day in Cape Town :)

You look very lovely Lizzy! and the thought behind 67 minutes is very beautiful! I grow up studying about Mandela and his ideology! we have a very respected and well loved music maestro from my place in India who passed away few years ago; I think he had met Mandela and wrote a very moving song on him! I consider myself very lucky to be born in a time where we saw these great minds at work and get motivated!!

Thank you lovelies! Aru, that's a beautiful way of looking at things. There are a lot of bad things that happen, but there are also a lot of good people who are fighting the good fight :) And yes, we are lucky to have had the privilege to be inspired by these phenomenal people.

Thanks Cassidy! <3
Haha not at all Ashley. I suppose if you're not from South Africa you have no reason to know him. In SA we had this thing called Apartheid, which was a law that separated what they called whites and non-whites. Basically a bunch of idiots thought black people were 'unclean' and less worthy and tried to separate them from society by limiting the areas where they could live, eat, shop, etc. Nelson Mandela was a major activist during the Apartheid time. He fought against it and spent 27 years in prison as a result. He played a major role in the end of Apartheid and is seen as the father of our nation.

What a great way to remember such a great man!! I work with a young woman who is from South Africa and we are recognizing his birthday today as well. But since we're a domestic violence shelter we are nothing but charitable and we all can't leave the facilities so we're taking turns volunteering at a nearby homeless shelter for an hour. I slotted for 1pm. It hasn't been mentioned in local/national media of his birthday and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact of what took place in the Urkraine yesterday. Thank you for posting Lizzy!!

Thanks ladies!
Shelley, that's great! My mom is a social worker working in a similar shelter and the work you guys do is like Mandela day every day ;) I have so much respect and admiration for you; I know it's not an easy thing but you are fighting the good fight.
I was wondering that as well! Although I understand why this takes the backseat to many of the other issues that need reporting, I wish it was at least acknowledged more by international media.
On a side note: I just heard from one of my friends that my dance school made over 600 sandwiches that will be delivered to homeless shelters. That's crazy! So many awesome things happened today. I can only hope that it will continue throughout the year. I'm on holiday and was not able to participate in their sandwich making, but I did have a lot of fun on a beach cleanup trip, something I'm equally passionate about. The great thing is most malls and businesses, no matter how big or small, had some kind of project going that made it easy for people to help out. So yay for positive impacts!! :)

Hey Lizzy.. Who doesn't know Mr. Mandela (At least here in India).. Thought behind this 67 min charity work is very appreciable. Your make up is so natural and very appropriate for the occasion.

Thank you Lizzy. I had the chance to work intake and my hour flew by so quickly. I was kinda bummed out that it ended so quickly. My daughter is in Paris right now and I know her host family recognized the day and has her doing some things in their community. Today has been a good day.

Thank you Sarah, Traci & Parnika :)
Shelley, that's great to hear! One of my friends is in Paris as well for a dance intensive and she said her whole program did some volunteering. It's nice to know that it is at least recognized in some places worldwide.
Mackenzie, I think that's even more commendable, that you did it out of your own free will without needing motivation from a day like yesterday.
