Maybe he can try the regimen from acne.org. I haven't tried it personally but it has great reviews on YouTube.

Lledenia he tried it and it did work!! But he got dry patches on his skin. Then an allergic reaction and his face has never went back to normal.

Well, instead of "trying"different products, I stuck with what I was using for three years waiting for it to work, it did nothing and actually made my acne worse, not to mention sucked over a thousand dollars out of my wallet. So I started trying different options, and you know, my skin sort of started to clear up. My skin is the best it's been right now in 7 years, and I have a TON of really dark scars. It's trial and error.

Yikes @ proactive. Careful with that madness! Thanks for the responses. I do see the benefit to having a good derm and @Maggie & Jacqlyn in severe cases I agree accutane is a miracle worker! I'm glad we had this conversation though because like I mentioned it seems this is the final answer for skin issues and it's often something like black African soap that makes all the difference 😉 lol couldn't help it.

Which btw I love for any skin issues below the neck! If I have a spot on my back/chest/legs I use African black soap and it's gone within a day. I find it a bit too drying for face wash but it's great stuff.

Zoey.. What did you use to clear it up?

Maggie it is great stuff and it is very drying which I hate!! But I don't use anything on my face only water because I don't have acne. But my newphew tried it, and it gave him cystic acne and he didnt like it. But he's very not patient. Like, if he uses something for a week or two and doesn't see results he stops!

Has he been on Aczone combined with a retinoid cream? That along with an antibiotic by mouth to start off with helped clear my skin immensely. Now all I really feel like I need is the Aczone. I didn't have quite cystic acne but mine was persistent as it is genetic, my father had it quite badly when he was my age as well. But I struggled for close to 10 years too. It can be drying at first but it helped so much. The retinoid cream helps exfoliate so there isn't dead skin around the trap dirt and oil and the Aczone cream has a type of antibiotic in it in addition to the one I was on by mouth. If he does try it out I recommend using a heavy duty night time moisturizer (CeraVe, in the big jar was my savior.) and a moisturizer with SPF in it during the day because the retinoid can make you photosensitive.
