My nephew is 16. He has really bad severe cystic acne. He has tried everything and accutane is to dangerous and expensive. So has anyone used acnepril and your opinions on it? I want to help him! He wants it gone before school starts! So another 2 months maybe.

He should go to a dermatologist. They'll be able to help with his skin type best. It's hard to help with severe acne as we don't know what has caused it, how bad it is, or what type of skin they have. Some people's acne are results of not washing properly, and some it's genetics and can't be helped without prescriptions for creams or pills.

Its weird because no one in his family has acne only like a pimple here and there. Also, he did go to the derm. And they gave him perscriptions and none of them worked. He went about 5 times.. And nothing worked:( I feel really bad!

Acne is very trial and error. I went to 3 dermatologists till I got one who figured out a good routine for getting rid of my mild acne. Unfortunately he may have to try 25 different creams before he finds one that works.

Jocelyn. I know what that is and how long did it take him to see these results?

If nothing works the dermatologist should tell him what to do next. Usually there's more things that could be prescribed that are stronger if there's nothing left to try (accutane for example) not much store bought acne treatments will work.

Jocelyn please don't tell people it'll work for sure, every persons skin is different. I've tried the raw African black soap and it broke me out, I had worse acne than ever and it took a long time for my skin to go back to normal after it. I'm glad it works for you but please don't say "trust me it'll work" because that's not something you can make sure of.

I completely agree with Alyx. Just because it works for you does not by any means mean it will work for someone else that's not good advice. Hannah, I hope his acne clears up soon, that must be a terrible thing to deal with.

Jocelyn. Thats true. I wasnt going to go right away and buy it, obviously. But thank you everyone for your opinions! And I did hear great reviews on black african soap!

All I'm saying is you shouldn't tell people it works for sure. When I was 14 and feeling bad about myself because of my mild acne, I spent a ton of money on products because people were going "trust me, it works." Or "it cleared up my acne it'll definitely clear up yours" and got super disappointed when they didn't work. And that's what happened with the soap you've mentioned, someone went "it works for everybody it'll clear up your acne!" And in less than a week of using it I had big cystic acne that I had never had before. So all I'm saying is instead of saying it'll work for sure, say it works for you and some people you know. It's just getting less hopes up and doesn't make it sound like a miracle product that clears everyone's acne.

All I was asking is if you could in the future reword that phrase. Instead of saying "trust me it'll work" just saying "it worked for me and some people I know so you should give it a try". Yes people should do their research and I did mine on the soap too, it doesn't change the fact that someone told me it'd work, they said similar to "trust me it'll work" so I used it and it didn't work. I didn't mean to be rude or offend you in any way, just the way you said it is misleading. Saying "trust me it'll work" is not your opinion, it's (assuming) unintentionally guaranteeing people that it'll work.

@alyx I agree with your point however I'm continually irritated with the dermatologist approach. They're not the end all and as with all western medicine there are flaws. A big one includes the fact that they are trained to treat the problem not find the root. It's obvious that in severe cases something like accutane is necessary but not every skin issue has to be directed towards a derm. Can any of you ladies (Jacqlyn you have and yours is an accutane example like I mentioned :) give me examples of what a dermatologist did to help your acne? How about a negative experience? My neighbor is one of the top dermatologists in our area and we disagree on products etc.ALL the time lol. Thoughts?

Maggie I definitely agree some dermatologists don't help. That's why I went to different ones. The one I currently go to for any skin problem is amazing though. He not only goes through the causes but he recommends products and ingredients that will help and goes through the trial and error with me.
Like I have what's called (not medically) "sticky skin" which means my skin doesn't get rid of the dead skin on its own, I have to manually scrub it off. It's only on a few places. I also have KP. But my dermatologist went through the how and why I get them and causes, we determined my causes through a list of possible causes and he made it clear what it is, how I got it and ways to treat them. So my dermatologist recommended creams for the "sticky skin" but they didn't work. He then went "this may make things work but it also may make things better." And recommended I but a silicone scrubby thing with little nubs on it (I found one for 6$ at sephora that works great, he was googling some that were 10$+ but went "actually that'll probably work better" when I showed him the sephora one) and I now have to manually scrub it off with a gentle scrub and he gave me a soothing cream. Which I had to go through about 6 because I have super sensitive skin and get hives with everything lol. I used to go to this dermatologist that went "oh you have acne here's a cream" or for me it was "you have KP on your arms here's a cream" and when I broke out in hives that night from the cream, we called and made a new appointment. She didn't get the fact that I could hives over it and told me to keep using it. Obviously I switched dermatologists. I think it just depends on the dermatologist. My derm also doesn't push products. He doesn't have any sponsors which a lot of them do for cleansers (cetaphil is the most common here) and they'll do anything to sell those.

I totally agree with you Alyx. I know how that feels because my nephew did the same thing! He put so many products on his face because of all the comments like omg try this it is a miracle! And all the comments were making him feel like he should buy it and he wasted so much money on them and none worked but irritated the skin! You have a very good point hun!

I'm so jealous of people that get to see dermatologists, I live on Vancouver Island, and there's only 2 derms here, and one of them doesn't accept new patients, and the other doesn't deal with acne. My family doctor has done nothing but give me false info and useless products. I'm really on my own with my acne and scars.

Anyway my point was, if you have stubborn skin, you can waste hundreds of dollars trying to find something that works, you just have to keep trying things and be patient.

I hate to say it, but if it's cystic acne and nothing else has worked from the dermatologist, I doubt acnepril would work. I took Accutane (3 courses actually) and my only regret was not doing it right away and having severe acne through my entire teens. He prob needs to take an aggressive approach or he will have scars, which trust me are EXPENSIVE to fully remove. I took my last course maybe 5 years ago and I will get a few breakouts here and there, but nothing substantial. I truly feel it changed my life and was a miracle drug. My acne would not respond to anything else.

Zoey.. To be honest your statement keep trying thing" I think isnt really the case. Because when people keep trying and trying products your skin CANT BREATHE! Thats probably the problem! To let it breathe and not put so many or any products!
