Cleaning makeup brushes--how often??

Okay this might sound really stupid but how often should I clean my makeup brushes?? I'm just starting to use brushes and I don't know if I'm supposed to wash them every time I use them or how often I should?

I spot clean mine every day and deep clean every 2 or 3 weeks.

I'd say if you rub it against a cloth or something and nothing goes onto it, they're clean. Like paint brushes.

Not necessarily Sophie, since your face harbours so much bacteria you should be more worried about spreading it rather than mixing product. I spot clean mine every time I use them, but sometimes slack on my eyebrushes. I like Sephoras brush cleansing wipes or lise watiers brush cleanser. Spot cleaners tend to be in little spray bottles and you simply spray it on your dirty brush and wipe it on a towel. I deep clean mine every other week but some people wait longer, I don't because I wear makeup almost daily. I'm a loyal baby shampoo and lukewarm water user when it comes to deep cleaning.

I'm a clean freak when it.comes to brushes. I can hardly use them twice (even eye brushes) before I have to clean them again. I normally wash them every night if I used them that day.

I clean them with dilluted dettol every use or every few uses depending on the brush and I try to not wash them with water for as long as possible, maybe every month and a half, 2 months with the masters brush cleaner and preserver.
Every I use was recommend to me by the great Jacqueline :)
I remember she talked in detail about why its not good to wash them with water too often and I know she recommends Parian Spirit to keep your brushes extremely clean and conditioned.

I spray them everyday with a DIY cleaner I made from YouTube XD and then once a week I clean them with water and my bare minerals brush cleaner! I have acne prone skin so it's important to keep the bacteria from building up
