I hate how people have turned "hipster" and "punk" into something cute and trendy when in reality, when these were actually first a thing, anyone who was punk or hipster looked like they were homeless but now everyone swears that they're punk and hipster when they're just tumblr wannabes oops ok there my vent thank you.

I get it, but this isn't a question or really anything useful to anyone simply a rant.

Oh I see what you're saying.
A rant like this isn't going to change it...
Also from what I see the people who started it didn't look homeless. It was just a new style that people weren't used to. Now the people that were hippy chose to travel more than have a place to stay.

^^ I agree with Shannon. In the sixties hippies were the ones who moves around a lot more.

Gypsies were the first people to move around and not have a settled home. So I guess the hippies could have been considered the gypsies of North America.

Sorry I know it's not a question but I hate how people have turned the original clothing style into something it isnt.

But that's how styles come into trend? You can't tell me you've never looked at what some one else was wearing and turned it into you're own. This could almost be considered hypocritical considering the people you say looked "homeless" probably never called themselves hipsters. So a style pulled from these so called "homeless" people is just a way of life.

So with this theory, nobody should be allowed to wear adidas, Nike or under armour unless you play sports. I get what your saying but people have to experiment and see what they like. it could be just a phase but why not let them explore?

Why does it bother you so much?

I agree with people wearing what they like, wether it's trendy or not. But I also hate how people try so hard to conform to all these stereotypes and justify it with "it's just who I am" no, you aren't being you. You are being the carbon copy of every other "metal" or "girly" or "hipster" person on the internet. I've had a friend of mine that I knew for ages change completely when he came out. He started acting super flamboyant and wearing 'tumblr clothes' and just changing his personality in front of others because that's what the stereotype told him to do. It's just not okay :/ if you're looking at someone's outfit thinking "that's so cute I wish I could wear that but it's not my style" you aren't being your self. You make your own style, so who's to say that you can't wear a pretty floral skirt you love because you listen to Metallica and have face piercings? I think everyone needs to drop the labels and trends and just do them.

Is it because they change the original fashion but say it's the original?? Like people who dress like "hippies" and say there hippies when the people who were actually hippies there style looked different ( if you know what I'm saying)

What on earth are 'tumblr clothes'?? that is the most vague and slightly stupid thing I've ever heard considering the different groups and styles compiled on tumblr.

I never understood what people meant by "tumblr style" it's always different depending on the people you follow.

But to the original poster. You're saying deriving a trend from a lifestyle is wrong. Well, take boy clothes for example. It is considered cute for girls to wear boys' long sleeve shirts or male-style suits, for example, but it's not like girls who wear such a style are necessarily trying to be boys. I could dress hipster but that would not mean I'm trying to be hipster. Clothing trends and lifestyles are two separate things and should not be confused. It's like saying all the people with chief hats at Lollapalooza are trying to be Native Americans.
