I dye my hair a dark chocolate brown and last time I did my roots turned red. does anyone know how to prevent the lighter, red roots? eek!!

Make sure you are using a shampoo and conditioner that is safe for colored hair.

Never color your hair yourself unless you're a licensed professional. When coloring hair, the closer to the scalp the hair is the faster it's going to process. You need to use a lower developer when mixing color and maybe go 1 shade darker at the scalp. And blend it out onto the rest of the haircolor. Not only will this prevent hot roots but it will also create a shadow depth effect. But again, NEVER do ANY kind of chemical service unless you are a licensed professional.

What Cindy said. also, home hair color tends to build up on the hair very fast, causing the ends to be a lot darker then the actual hair color. or if yiu have any grey they may take lighter and more translucent.
