So after I wash my face in the morning I'm torn between moisturizing first or applying a spot treatment first. I spot treat with either tea tree oil or benzoyl peroxide. What should I do first for maximum effectiveness?

And another question: should I exfoliate before or after I shower and cleanse?

I moisturize first.. Wait a minute for it to sink in then spot treat then dab moisturizer on too. Rubbing it will displace the spot treatment

Moisturize first and then spot treatment!! I find that if I do spot treatment first and then moisturize, it just gets moved around onto clear portions of my skin and also the spot treatment dries my skin

Out! So I moisturize my entire face, let it dry and then put spot

Cool, thanks everybody for the info. And @mckenna, thank you very much for the compliment, though I don't exactly show my face on my profile, haha.

Although the average person moisturizes first, it has been proven more beneficial to apply a spot treatment first. By putting moisturizer first your just filling your pores so when you apply a spot treatment it won't even be effective cause something's already been applied.

Make sure to let the spot treatment fully absorb and then apply your moisturizer. As for your other question, I would exfoliate in the shower when you do cleansing. I do it all together.

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks Cami.

I always apply my moisturizer first then spot treatment. And I exfoliate in the shower.

Although Cami F comment got me thinking. Maybe I'm going to try to apply the spot treatment first now (:

Hahaha I know I was mind blown when I first read an article about it. I find it to be more effective since I switched about a year ago, but to each their own 😊😊

I'm studying to be an esthetician & the 'right' way is to apply a spot treatment first. & you cleanse then exfoliate.

Step 1: cleanser
Step 2: toner
Step 3: topical medications (acne creams, spot treatments)
Step 4: Eye cream
Step 5: moisturizer
Step 6: sunscreen w/SPF
Step 7: face primer
