You could start trying to braid your own hair while it's wet, cause it's "stickier" and thus easier to braid then.
I have to agree with the others on dry shampoo (there are brands that have some matching each hair colour, they might be good for that purpose) or texturing spray, and make sure your hair is not freshly washed.
